Coffee packaging can be very tricky when it comes to being earth friendly. Because roasted coffee secrets oils, the bag which its packaged in must have some sort of oil-proof barrier inside so it doesn't seep through to the outside of the bag. Most coffee bags also have a one-way valve, which allows the coffee to de-gas, but does not allow oxygen to come in contact with the beans. This protects and extends the shelf life of the coffee. With all this being said, oil-proof packaging that is also eco-friendly can be hard to find! Most coffee packaging is not recyclable, or hard to recycle because of the type of plastic it is made out of. At White Horse, we were determined to make sure our packaging could be repurposed through the recycling process. After researching and reviewing A LOT of sustainable packaging options, we decided 100% recyclable packaging was the best way to go!
