ABOUT OUR BAGS...
Packaging is the main source of plastic pollution that is filling our oceans and landfills. This poses major threats to our environment, our health and all the animals we share this planet with.
White Horse Coffee Roasters is dedicated to clean roasting, sustainability, low/zero-waste living, and reducing our carbon footprint. It is because of this mission that we use Biotré coffee bags. These bags are made from 60% biodegradable, renewable wood pulp and 40% special polyethylene which disintegrates faster than standard plastic. These bags will break down in your home compost, given enough time, or biodegrade in a landfill.
So, why don’t we just use 100% compostable or biodegradable bags?
Currently, there isn't a 100% biodegradable or compostable bag on the market that meets our necessary specs. Most coffee bags have some form of inner or outer plastic liner preventing it from being recyclable or compostable. However, bag manufacturers are focusing their efforts on creating better, 100% sustainable packaging. So, we’re working with what we do have in the meantime and striving towards the goal of a 100% biodegradable/compostable bag.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
1. REMOVE THE TIN TIE.
Simply tear the tin tie off the bag and reuse it to close other bags, keep computer wires together or use your repurposing creativity to think of other ways you can use it in your home!
2. REMOVE THE DEGASSING VALVE.
Cut out or rip out the valve and throw this in the trash.
Great work! After these two steps, the remainder of the bag is now 100% biodegradable or compostable. Put it in your compost bin or your trash and feel good knowing that you are doing your part to help combat climate change and reduce plastic waste.
